The work featured in the National Art Gallery's touring exhibition 'Pacific Parallels' which toured the US throughout 1991 - 1993.
The piece is unusual in subject matter for Charles Tole and has remained in private hands since it's exhibition until now.
Charles Tole was a mostly self-taught painter who was heavily influenced by the Cubist movement and made an important contribution to the Modernist art movement in New Zealand.
